A recent study has found that leading a sedentary lifestyle can lead to arthritis. On World Arthritis Day, the Satguru Partap Singh Hospitals organised a seminar to educate people about the maintenance of their bone health. Around 126 patients were also examined during this seminar and it was found that most of them had chronic back or knee pain.

Dr Gera said, “Early diagnosis is a key to prevent damage. Sometimes the disease can progress very rapidly, causing swelling and damage to joints and commonly affects hands, feet and wrists. Apart from joints, it can affect many other organs, inlcuding lungs, heart, skin, nerves and eyes.”

Dr Gill said, “One should start with low-impact exercises like walking. Walking an hour a day will go a long way to keep you fit. It not only builds muscle strength and flexibility but also helps reduce arthritic pain.”

Dr Bhan said, “Earlier, arthritis was believed to be associated with age-related degeneration. However, with sedentary lifestyles, imbalanced diet and poor work-life balance, more and more people in the early 30s are visiting doctors.” Well, this proves that one needs to stay fit despite their age.
