Cooking can be a therapeutic activity for some, but depending on the mood. Your mood and thoughts are some of the factors that can likely effect the quality of your cooked food. Have you ever noticed how your food turns out to be an absolute delish when you’re all cheerful than other times? Many people with stress or negative thoughts tend to ruin even the easiest recipes, not their fault! The truth is, you thoughts, whether positive or negative can impact the food you’re cooking. According to an old Japanese belief, the quality of your hand-prepared food depends on your mental health, directly and indirectly.

Dr. Masaru Emoto is a Japanese author and research expert who has done some groundbreaking study through the 1990s on the effects of different energies on food and water. According to his study, human thoughts and energy play a vital role in different activities, such as cooking. It is the human consciousness that can affect water’s molecular structure.

Dr. Emoto’s experiments were performed to observe the physical state of elements like water, music, and earth on the crystalline structure of water. Their changes to positive and negative emotions were captured in image forms to prove the shift in their molecular structure. It concluded that positive thoughts can produce harmonious crystal formations in the water whereas negative thinking can result in fragmented crystals in water.

Similarly, it is believed that it is the aura or invisible energy radiating from the person who’s cooking that can partially decide the food’s quality, texture, taste, and appearance. The cook through her/his food can mold and shape the thoughts of the person who’s eating the same food. This is done through the transfer of energies through food. Cooking in a happy and energetic mood can elevate the food’s nourishing qualities for better appetite.
