Do you need to apply sunscreen despite being indoors?

While most of us women wouldn't step a foot outside without some kajal and lip balm on, if there's one other thing we pay just as much attention to, it has to be our sunscreen. We're used to slathering on sunscreen before we step out for our normal routine and many of us even opt for re-application about 3-4 times a day. But now that we're all indoors, the question that arises is that do we need to still apply sunscreen? After all, we're not stepping out in the sun anymore.

Well, turns out you're wrong about this. Experts say that sun rays from your windows can reach your skin within 15 minutes. So, no matter what you apply whether it's your moisturiser or your serum or your BB cream, they're all useless in helping your skin out if you don't layer them with sunscreen. Yes, even at home! We often skin sunscreen because we think that we're safe from the sun's rays while we're indoors, but clearly, that's not how it is.

Scientists and dermatologists suggest that you should apply sunscreen even when you're indoors so you must ensure that your morning skincare routine involves sunscreen too. There are two types of sun rays - UVA and UVB rays. While both of these can affect your skin is similar ways, some windows are able to block UVB rays so you'll be safe from them indoors, but the UVA rays will still get you.

So, the way we're looking at it, it really seems like there's no going around this option. Experts say that what you can do instead of opting for your regular sunscreen is to opt for one that has a lighter texture and SPF since the rays won't be able to harm your skin as much as they could outside. So, you could opt for sunscreen in a lighter lotion form or even gel form if that makes you feel more comfortable. The important thing to remember is to reapply it at least 2-3 times a day so that it can protect your skin effectively.

Sunscreen is also necessary to help protect your skin from blue light emitted by electronic devices. Experts say that Indian skin is usually more prone to pigmentation which is why this light can also lead to premature signs of ageing. So, the bottom line here is to apply sunscreen even when you're indoors. It'll help protect your skin from cancer and pigmentation. Stay tuned for more updates.
