It's that time of the year when everything is colourful and Christmasy. It's also the time when you'd want to bake some yummy and cute looking holiday cookies. For this, you might take some inspiration from Pinterest but you'll soon realize how it's not all that easy to actually get them right. And so, we've got you some best decorating advice that you can put to use for your home baked cookies.

- Firstly, you'll need a few tools to get started. Small piping tips, piping bags, a small offset spatula, paintbrushes, quality food dye, edible black ink pens, toothpicks, scissors, a hand mixer as well as a few mixing bowls and spoons.

- Pick a particular colour scheme and shapes that you'd like. It really helps to choose one that goes together with the festive days- winter caps, snowflakes, mittens, etc. Now, pick a colour palette so that you don't get confused with colour combinations.

- Always pick royal icing over water icing. The royal icing will contain egg whites which makes it stretchier and easier to pipe. Also, it will dry completely overnight as compared to water icing.

- Be patient with each cookie. We understand you'll get really excited and nervous decorating them, but patience is the key. Don't end up decorating the cookies before they're completely cooled down.

Once you get a hang of a few basic things, you will pick up speed and the sense of colours that could go with your various shaped cookies. Make sure you enjoy the process as much as you'll enjoy eating them and feeding them to others.
