Fans mourn the loss of Filipe Machado and Chapecoense team

In a tragic accident, a flight carrying over 68 passengers and nine crew members from Boloivia to Medellin, crashed in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The chartered plane was carrying the Brazilian first division football team, Chapecoense, who were flying to play a regional tournament, Copa Sudamerica finals match against Atlético Nacional on Wednesday in Medellin.

According to the initial reports, there were six survivors, however, the police later confirmed that one of the survivors succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Calling it an unthinkable tragedy, the Brazilian president, Michel Temer, announced three days of mourning, and called off all the games for one week.

The goalkeeper Danilo was initially reported to have survived but later succumbed to his injuries. The six people who survived the crash include three players – Alan Ruschel, Jakson Follman and Zampier Neto, two crew members, and a journalist. As the news of the accident spread, hundreds of Chapecoense fans gathered at the football club’s stadium in Chapecó, Brazil, to mourn the loss, and await further news. Condolences for the deceased have been poring in from the footbal fans and players alike.
