Being attached to your cell phone for too long can lead to a skin condition known as ‘mobile phone dermatitis’

While cleansing, toning, moisturising and regular usage of sunscreen is essential for maintenance of good skin, there are various other factors that might be affecting your skin. In fact, your daily lifestyle choices may be undoing all your efforts for good skin and causing that dry skin or acne breakout.

Considering the nature of work, spending too much time on the cell phone is a given. However, being attached to your cell phone for too long can lead to a skin condition known as ‘mobile phone dermatitis’ or ‘allergic contact dermatitis’. While it is the nickel used in cell phones that is to blame, but the electromagnetic radiations can also trigger allergic reactions.

Talking about the allergies caused by the cell phone, cosmetic physician Dr Manjiri Puranik said, “Besides, holding a mobile phone close to the skin can cause swelling, redness, itching or blistering near the cheekbones, ears, jaw or hands due to germs on the screen.”

However, it is just not acne breakouts that you have to worry about, looking at the screen constantly also leads to crow’s feet around the eyes and wrinkles around the area underneath the chin and around the neck.

To avoid the allergies, Dr Puranik suggests using hands-free devices like headsets or putting your phone on speaker mode to avoid direct contact with the skin. Also, as a habit use anti-bacterial wipes at least once a day to wipe the screen.
