The next time you need to lower your blood pressure you might not need to take medicines. Why you ask? Well, a study was recently conducted by Andrews University which shows that by making certain lifestyle changes, you can control your blood pressure. “By adapting certain lifestyle health principles, half of the people in our study achieved normal blood pressure within two weeks, while avoiding the side effects and costs associated with blood pressure medications,” said the research team leader.

“The Newstart Lifestyle programme works quickly, is inexpensive and uses a palatable diet that allows for moderate amounts of salt and healthy fats from nuts, olives, avocado and certain vegetable oils,” he added. The study also showed that the reduction in blood pressure was equal to that of three doses of medicine. Additionally, 93% of participants were able to either reduce the dosage of medicine they were required to take or were able to completely get rid of having to take medication. Now, isn't that great?

The programme’s vegan diet consisted of foods, such as legumes, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, olives, avocados, soy milk, almond milk and whole-grain breads. Apart from this, participants also had to walk daily, drink plenty of water, get adequate amount of sleep as well as participate in optional spiritual activities. But by the end of the study, most of their blood pressure issues had disappeared. Well, when are you making some healthy lifestyle changes?
