We're all aware of International Women's Day but did you know that there's also an International Men's Day? It was inaugurated by Thomas Oaster in 1992 and was revived again by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh, a history lecturer at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago, in 1999. He chose the date November 19 to celebrate the occasion so as to also mark his father's birthday. While most of you may wonder what the day is about, Dr Jerome didn't just look at the event as a cause for celebration. Instead, he chose to promote International Men’s Day as a day to reflect on issues affecting men and boys.

The day also coincides with Movember which is a pretty well-known cause where men decide not to shave the entire month of November to raise money for men’s health. International Men's Day also includes various campaigns which focus on men's health and improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting male role models. For this year, the theme is “Positive Male Role Models”. So, if you're wondering what you can do to support the cause, start by donating to men's health campaigns. You could also make and share posters that talk about ailments that men face, as a sign of your support. Stay tuned for more updates.
