Here's how you can use salt to clean your kitchen items

Stains and grease residue can really just stick to pans and pots in a very stubborn manner. You can buy all the different types of cleaning products to get rid of these, but there’s a kitchen ingredient that can help bring a solution to this situation. Salt – it’s a pantry staple and one of the best natural cleaning items.

Salt is quite a gentle abrasive and has a gritty texture which help in scraping off stains, leftover food bits as well as other residues on pans. Not just that, salt also is an absorbent. Just like baking soda, salt can easily absorb grease and once it comes in contact with water, it dissolves which creates a saline solution that can break down protein-based stains.

Salt also helps cleaning cutting board. After you cut meat, the salt helps in absorbing the moisture from meat and prevents bacterial contamination. It can also be used to clean and maintain the cutting board. So the next time you use a cutting board when you cook some turkey, steak, chicken or other foods, you can use salt and lemon to wash the bacteria off.

If at all your pots get rusty, salt can come to your rescue. For big pots, you can use a gallon of which distilled vinegar and one cup of table salt. If your pot is smaller, half a gallon of vinegar with half a cup of salt will work fine. You need to allow the pot to soak for 12 hours or a few days and then use steel wool or bristled brush to scrub off all the rust.

If you have a pan that has greasy residue on it, you can drop some coarse salt into the pan, dry scrub it with your usual dish sponge and then rinse it. If your sink clogs up from food particles, you can combine 1 cup of baking soda with half cup salt and pour it down the drain. Now, wait it up for 2-3 hours before you rinse the sink with hot water.

If you use salt to help you clean, you won’t ever have to worry about the chemical dangers. It is also one of the many tips and tricks that you can make use for hand-washing your dishes.
