The coronavirus pandemic may have all of us in lockdown but people have not let the situation get the best of them. Whether it's picking up a hobby or opting to spend time with loved ones or even choosing to opt for new beauty and skincare sessions, people have been making the most of the situation. Now, while you may already have a skincare routine you follow, experts suggest that this is the perfect time for you to pick up on one more trend - dry brushing.

Dry brushing has only been gaining popularity over the years and refers to using a brush (with stiff bristles) on your body to help get rid of dead skin cells and impurities in the skin. Basically, it's a form of gentle exfoliation. Not only can it make your skin look clean and better, but it also does wonders in boosting blood circulation all over the body. So, really it's a win-win situation.

But why specifically start dry brushing during this time? Dr Taruna Yadav, a senior Ayurveda doctor says that the spring season or warmer months like March, April and May make for the perfect time to opt for dry brushing since it can help detoxify the lymphatic system. “During this time, the Kapha qualities like heaviness, water retention, bloating and toxins build up, are common. Dry brushing reduces this imbalance, leaving you feeling energised for the warmer months,” she says.

“Dry brushing helps to exfoliate the skin, leaving cellulite reduced, and skin brighter and more radiant. It also unclogs pores," adds another expert. “The direction of the strokes should always be towards your heart and against the hair follicles so it can help to drain the lymph,” says one expert.

With dry brushing, you need to start at the edges and then work your way inwards towards the centre of your body. So, with your hands, you start and the fingers and then move towards your arm and with your legs, you start at the feet and then move upwards and so on. Be very gentle on your body and don't overdo the process. Stay tuned for more updates.
