How is wellness the new mental health?

If we played the word association game, we would not deduce 'wellness' from 'mental health', right? The two are significantly very different things and associating them would be bizarre. And in today's day and age, as mental health issues grow, we seem to be less equipped and open to deal with it all.

Then, what's the 'adult' thing to do? Turn to something that makes us feel comforted rather than confronted and that happens to be the million-dollar industry of 'wellness'. Pushed by superstars, wellness is gentle and full of superfoods, fitness and guided meditation apps. There's an app to help the anxious sleep and there are 'essential oils' to comfort you. Whatever be the mental health issue, wellness seems to have the answer to any woes you may have.

However, researchers are not sure whether wellness really is the remedy or a whole lot of...you know what. But if the next generation can understand the importance of rest, of communication and connection of mind-body balance, we may have a generation of people who are a little more in touch with themselves and each other.
