If you have digestive troubles, you must avoid eating these foods

Have you been paying utmost attention to your diet during this lockdown? Has it been easy for you to stay away from deep fried items and sugar cravings? For most of you, the answer might be 'no'. This could be the reason why you might be experiencing digestive issues and feeling sluggish among other things. This is why, it is extremely important to eat healthy and maintain a fit routine when you're at home.

There are a few foods listed down that you should avoid if you are dealing with digestive problems:

- Excess white sugar: Considering the reduction of physical activity these days, it is a good practice to cut down on unnecessary sugar intake whenever it is possible. If you have sugar cravings, you can rather opt for homemade traditional sugar-based sweets. These include laddoos, besan barfi, Punjabi pooda or even kheer than the baked products like desserts and cakes. This will ensure that you stay feeling lighter. If you still have sugar cravings, you can opt for jaggery or sauf post meals.

- Refined flour or maida: Maida-based products like noodles and biscuits lack fibre and are difficult to digest for the body. They even lead to a spike in the body's blood sugar level owing to its high glycemic index which leads to insulin resistance. It even increases bad cholesterol which is why it is best to avoid maida products. Consumption of refined flour off limits is also linked with obesity as it increases hunger pangs throughout the day which results in unhealthy eating. Try switching for whole grains like bajra, jowar and ragi for high fibre content.

- Deep-fried foods: Oil-based foods like French fries and chips are best avoided. The oil deposits or trans fats can raise bad cholesterol levels and increases the chances of heart diseases. It also leads to increases calorie intake.

- Processed foods: Over-consumption of potato chips and vegetable oil can promote inflammation which is associated with heart diseases. It is always a good idea to avoid packet-based processed foods like noodles and biscuits. These foods contain large amounts of sodium, sugar and preservatives and tend to be low in minerals and vitamins which ultimately results in weight gain.
