Researchers reveal inhalation therapy could help keep asthma under control during winter, which can worsen the condition.

Experts say that inhalation therapy helps manage symptoms of asthma and improve lung function in adults and children.

There are several options to treat the condition and inhalation therapy often times gets a bad rap. An inhaler pump is used to transmit the corticosteroids into airway passages. The procedure, although effective is what makes patients wary of the method.

Yet inhalation therapy is direct and a simple method to help manage asthma. It gives the body only that amount of steroid it requires to treat the condition. Oral medication, on the other hand, dissolves and enters the bloodstream which reaches various other organs.

The need to take care of the condition is crucial during this season as the cold makes the symptoms worse, The lungs and airway passages become more sensitive during this time. The airways start to become narrow and swell up. The sticky mucus also blocks the airways making it difficult to breathe, which could result in a possible asthma attack.

According to the American Lung Association, 7.1 million children under 18 years are affected by the common disorder. The World Health Organisation Global Burden of Disease Study also reported that 13.8 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) are lost because of asthma.

Before undergoing any treatment it is important to first consult with your doctor.
