Is porn toxic for gender equality?

A Among many things levelled against pornography, and there's a lot of them, it is said that the practice is fundamentally bad for women. Studies state that porn tends to commodify a woman's body and that it's almost like watching instead of paying for prostitution. Feminists see it as treating a woman's body as nothing more than just an object. And today, an enthusiastic Twitterati's thread on why porn for men can be rather toxic for gender equality has garnered major likes as also support.

The Twitterati has gone on to state that porn tends to give men unrealistic expectations about sex and that contrary to what is shown in porn, women can only orgasm 62% of the time. The erotic fantasies that include seducing minors, adultery and assault among many other things shown in porn can actually lead to one being imprisoned if tried in real life. On a more scientific level, the Twitterati has said in her post, "Men who watch too much porn can experience loss of sex drive and sexual dysfunction because they can't respond to stimuli in the bedroom".

Porn is deemed as mechanised sex and there is nothing and we say nothing, romantic and loving about it. It tends to see women as objects of sexual pleasure and gratification. And when it comes to 'gender equality', studies have also revealed that men tend to treat women the same way they see them treated in porn.

Here's a glimpse of a few posts the Twitterati posted on the social media platform regarding the matter:

Porn has had a reputation of being degrading to women and while we fuss over gender equality, maybe there other things to ponder over too, that may subsequently be leading to the harassment and the ill-treatment of women. Something to think about, right?
