Don't you feel super tired when you haven't had a good night's sleep? Your body feels drained and your mind feels like it's falling all over the place. Scientists of Rutgers University (USA) have now found that apart from inducing a feeling of laziness, lack of sleep can also promote unhealthy eating habits, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. The study included over 1,77,000 children aged between 8 to 17 years. Factors such as dietary habits, sleep duration in the weekdays and weekends, the degree of physical activity of volunteers etc were studied.

It was found that children aged up to 12 years and below slept for less than nine hours a day and children aged 12 years and above slept for less than 8 hours a day. Approximately 40 percent of all respondents slept less than how much was recommended to them by doctors. The results further showed that insufficient sleep also led to the formation of bad habits like skipping breakfast, eating fast food, over-indulging in sweets etc.

Apart from this, it was also found that children tend to become more lethargic as lack of sleep leads to decreased physical activity during the day. These factors also ultimately lead to obesity and weight gain. So, here's why one must make sure that they set a proper sleep schedule and follow it through for a healthy lifestyle. Stay tuned for more updates.
