A new study published in the journal Food Quality and Preference states that obesity might be associated with less food enjoyment. About 552 adolescents between 11 and 17 years old were studied for this research. They were shown images of fast food and sweets and their emotional reactions were recorded and analysed. It was observed that teenagers who were obese, had dietary restrictions and unhealthy behaviours towards food, felt less attraction and the desire to eat the foods they were looking at.

The researchers said that teenagers who are dissatisfied with their body image can eventually fall into negative habits that are associated with risky eating behaviours like uncontrolled restrictions on food intake and the development of eating disorders. They also said that having a healthy relationship with food habits may become a protective factor against eating disorders and obesity. The researchers stated that rather than banishing the idea of enjoying food, one must enforce healthier habits like eating slowly which might counteract negative habits.

Well, this goes to prove that the key to healthy eating is a balanced diet and the right mindset. Stay tuned for more updates.
