There were times when big spaces to live in wasn't that big of a big deal. But with the number of buildings that are being built due to more and more population, space crunch is what everyone is dealing with. This means, we hardly get to see a terrace house or a garden area attached to an apartment. But if you're blessed with a decent balcony, and if you wish to convert it into a garden, you can very much do that!

If you don't know how to get started with it, here are some tips:

- To have a balcony garden means to have a lot of plants, flowers, herbs and even veggies if you like. And the most important thing for all of this to have a healthy growth is to see the sun's exposure. If your balcony is facing south or west, it's going to get maximum sun rays. This will help your plants grow really well. The balconies in the north will get the least amount of sun, hence, you need to be careful when you pick plants for your balcony garden.

- To pot the plants, you can really use any kind of containers. But you need to keep in mind that using plastic bottles is not going to help. Also, all your containers must have a hole at the bottom for drainage purposes. Hence, porous material pots are convenient. If you notice the plant dying due to over-watering, you will have to check the hole in the container and unclog it if at all. You can put trays under each pot to not let all the mud run around on the balcony floor.

- When it comes to furniture in the balcony garden, you can place your old furniture in your balcony instead of buying new ones. You can very much use some DIY techniques to give them a new look. Short tables, chairs, folding chairs, all of what you like can be in the balcony garden. But make sure you choose a furniture piece that suits the balcony size.

- If you are someone who loves gardening, you will want to have all kinds of plants, even hanging ones. You can go for it too! Metal hooks can be installed on your balcony ceiling and you can add some beautiful hanging plants in there.
