Study states exercising too hard can impair mental health

A recent study conducted in the US found that people who exercised several times a week had better mental health as compared to those who did not exercise at all. Team sports and exercises including social activities seemed to have the most benefits for people. But the study has also found that more exercise does not mean better mental health. On the contrary, while physically people felt good, most of those who exercised more reported lower mental health.

The study published in The Lancet Psychiatry journal found that exercising three to five times a week for about 45 minutes provided the most benefits to those people. All types of physical activities like lawnmowing, childcare, housework, fishing, cycling, going to the gym, running etc were included in the study. While exercise may reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes, there doesn't seem to be a proper link with mental health.

Another research conducted, asked people to rate how they felt during each day of a month. On an average people who exercised reported feeling 1.5 fewer days of poor mental health as compared to people who didn't exercise at all. Stay tuned for more updates.
