While technology and medicine might be advancing at a rapid rate, we cannot deny that a new set of diseases have also emerged with them. Diabetes has turned into one of the most common diseases people suffer from these days. And while most people may not know it, type 2 diabetes if left untreated for long can prove to be fatal. Well, what's the solution you ask? Research has found that to some extent, tea can be the solution at keeping type 2 diabetes at bay.

Diabetes is a condition that occurs when blood sugar levels are too high in the body. When it isn't treated properly it can lead to various health issues like complications in the eyes, heart, kidneys, nerves, feet and whatnot. So, while it can usually be brought under control with the help of the correct medication, it can also be controlled by making the right changes to one's diet. This means that you need to cut down on excess calories and sugar as well as consume foods that can help improve insulin sensitivity in the body. One such drink that you can consume to help keep your blood sugar levels at bay is tea, studies found.

The experts working on the research found that tea may be one drink that can not just improve insulin sensitivity in the body but can even prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes if consumed beforehand. So, if you're a tea drinker, there are chances that you might not develop type 2 diabetes at all. This happens because certain micronutrients called polyphenols are present in certain types of tea. These micronutrients help keep insulin levels in check. And since polyphenols also happen to be rich in antioxidants, they can help get rid of toxins from the body, can protect against inflammation and carcinogens. These are all properties that can help prevent the occurrence of type 2 diabetes.

However, they also found that adding milk to the tea could hinder its insulin-sensitivity effects which is why it's best not to add milk to tea. Try to consume teas like black tea, oolong tea and green tea instead. “Tea is one of the nation’s favourite drinks and research suggests it’s also a healthy drink,” said one researcher. “Tea brings a number of health benefits including improving insulin sensitivity. However, research notes that some the benefits are best experienced if you drink your tea without milk.”

One diabetes expert also found that drinking three cups of tea in a day could help reduce the onset of type 2 diabetes by as much as 40%. Well, this goes to prove that making the right changes to your diet can help you combat just about any disease. So, now that you know what kind of teas will work best in keeping diabetes at bay, go give them a try and see how well they work for you. Stay tuned for more updates.
