Whether you are working from home or office cubicle, long sitting hours can put severe pressure on our body posture. All kinds of jobs require a mix of body movements like standing, walking or even sitting, whereas desk jobs are more common nowadays. Most jobs require one to spend their entire day looking at a computer screen, leading to unwillingly slouching on their chairs. It is one of the causes behind poor body posture that can potentially cause pain and discomfort in the long run. You might not realise it until you start experiencing sudden stiffness around the neck or spine. This can be a sign of acute back pain and neck pain. However, it is easy to curb these health issues by following some easy changes.

Paying attention to one’s body posture is a great way to correct your habit of slouching. While sitting at your desk, try always placing your feet on the floor and at the same time keep your back flush against the chair. You must also keep your head in a neutral position with ears directly aligned above your shoulders.

Adjusting your chair according to your height also helps to rectify bad sitting posture. Sometimes it also depends on how your monitor and keyboard are placed. Make sure your computer screen is directly in front of you. The center of the screen must be aligned to your nose. A low monitor level can create stress for your neck. Similarly, the keyboard must be placed close enough to your elbow and so should be the mouse.

Another great tip is to stand up every 30 minutes to stop feel fatigued. It will relax you and change your posture to release the tension in between the body muscles. This is why people also prefer a standing desk to avoid impacting their body postures.

You can keep on engaging in simple chair-based exercises to relieve your overall body ache, especially the spine. Simple stretches and warm-up exercises daily at home can increase the flexibility of the neck and the spine. If exercising seems overwhelming then you can simply try walking around during your office break to relax your body and mind.
