Ways to know if you are carbohydrate intolerant

Lack of one or more intestinal enzymes can cause one to be carbohydrate intolerant this makes it challenging to consume some types of carbohydrates. Diarrhoea and abdominal distention are some of the symptoms of carbohydrate intolerance.

There are various factors that cause one to suffer from this condition. Genes, unhealthy lifestyle and certain medications play a huge role. If you are unsure if this is a problem you are affected by, there are a few ways to find out.

Take the time to examine yourself, according to Functional Medicine expert Frank Lipman. In a news portal, Lipman revealed key crucial questions to ask yourself:
* Have you gained a lot of weight?
*Do you feel exhausted a lot?
* Do you feel tired after consuming a heavy meal that contained a lot of carbs?
* Is your lifestyle sedentary?
* Are you unable to control your appetite?
* Do you crave a lot of sweet stuff or foods like bread and pasta?
*Do you feel dizzy when you start to feel hungry?
* How are your blood sugar levels?
* Do you suffer from brain fog, depression or skin issues?
* Are you sleeping well?

Once you've established that this applies to you, consult with a doctor to determine whether or not you are carbohydrate intolerant. If you are, there are ways to improve your health.

Here are a few tips by Lipman, as stated in a news portal:
* Avoidrefined carbohydrate
* Stay away from sugar
* Consume a lot more of vegetables that are leafy and cruciferous
* Try and reduce your intake of complex carbs
* Consume more healthy fats like avocados
* Reduce consumption of dairy
* Consume fresh foods like green apples and berries
* Try and stay clear of alcohol at least for a while
* Improve sleep quality
* Exercise
